Alycia Kaback Suggests You Check out E!’s New Show – Scouted! Learn about how it all Begins
Talent Scouts are the foundation of all Alycia Kaback’s projects. “But what is a Talent Scout?” you may ask. Well, that is a great question as the answer can depend on whom you are asking.
From the talents perspective, the most likely answer is “A Talent Scout is the person who first approached me about modeling and acting. The moment I was given that card from The “It” Factor with Alycia Kaback was the day my whole life changed. If it wasn’t for that Scout I would not be here today working on the set of Gossip Girl.”
From a Scouts’ perspective, scouting is a great way to make a wonderful living while helping change people’s lives and make their dreams come true. Our scouts say, “Scouting is the opportunity to live my life, having both freedom and flexibility throughout the day. I just do what I normally do—while shopping or picking up my morning coffee, I am always on the lookout for the next big thing.”
From the company’s perspective, scouting is the key factor that separates Alycia Kaback’s company from the competition. KMM and VIP Talent cannot apply online; they cannot find us in the phone book. Our talent are hand selected. The “It” Factor is by invitation only, making Talent Scouts the most vital aspect of our company.
E!’s new show Scouted features aspiring models plucked from obscurity and put to the test in New York’s ultra-competitive, high-fashion, modeling industry. Alycia Kaback suggests you read this VIP Talent Scout Success Story for more information on what it’s like to be a scout.
Talent Scout for Philadelphia Melissa with Vip Talent Connect & Alycia Kaback Discovers Evasen
Evasen Pillay came all the way from South Africa to live in the United States to pursue his entertainment career. In addition to being a model and actor, Evasen is a talented musician and dancer, as can be seen in the video above! Evasen is obviously a very determined person– Recently Evasen actually walked right into Ryan Colby’s office! There must have been something about him given that Ryan didn’t just throw him out, but being only 5’8″ he isn’t exactly standard Colby material. None the less, Ryan sat with Evasen and went over his portfolio and gave him some great advice before sending him on his way. Coincidentally, a few weeks later Evasen was discovered by VIP Talent Scout Melissa. Evasen is actually currently living in Boston, but when Melissa contacted him about an open call in Philadelphia the next day, he said, “I’ll be there!” Evasen got up at 1 AM and left for Philadelphia. Evasen is perfect for VIP Talent Connect. When he met with Alycia Kaback and VP Talent Services Nicole, Evasen was accepted to go to the December 10th Summit! Everyone at KMM and VIP can’t wait to see where Evasen will go with this. He has exactly the right personality and drive to take this opportunity to launch his career– VIP Talent Connect looks forward to Evasen’s success!
The IT Factor and VIP Talent’s Melissa Jester on Working for Alycia Kaback
What is your position at VIP Talent Connect and The IT Factor?
I am the President of Social Media. I update all the blogs and maintain the Facebook and Twitter accounts for all our brands, as well as manage other digital media outlets.
How long have you been working here?
Yesterday was actually the one year anniversary of my first day of training as a Vip Talent Scout. I really enjoyed scouting and I scouted a lot of people who are now successful models with KMM, like Jackie Curry.
My advice to new scouts would be to stop making excuses. If you really want something you will make it happen.
What do you like about working here?
I love working for a small company. I am young– I am 23 and I feel that at a bigger company I wouldn’t have been given the opportunities that Alycia Kaback has given me. She allowed me to prove myself and gave me responsibilities in accordance with my potential, not my experience. Here I have been held accountable and have been pushed to accomplish things I never thought I would have been capable of a year ago.
What are your thoughts on company and what it does?
I love the company and what we do for people here. It’s really about helping people; it’s not about money—we could charge a lot more for the VIP Talent Connect Summits and I could charge a consultation fee every time I help a talent write his or her bio before the Summit, but I don’t. I just want to help in the best way I can. There are a million examples like that every day.
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met so far?
The most interesting person I have met so far would be Michael who works behinds the scenes to make all this happen. He is an amazing entrepreneur and working so closely with him I feel I have been given a priceless education that I couldn’t have paid for in graduate school.
Who do you hope to one day meet?
I am not one to go crazy over celebrities, but I would like to meet Lady Gaga. I think she is a fascinating cultural phenomenon and we would have a lot to talk about.
What do you like to do outside of working?
I don’t have a lot of time outside of working, but when I do have time, I like to spend it with my family.
What do you think of the VIP Talent Connect Summits and what they offer to people?
I think it is a very powerful experience; it changes lives. There is a lot of work that goes into pulling it off, but it is so totally worth it once you see the talent realizing their potential. The energy of that day puts you on a whole new level.
What type of music do you like to listen to?
I need a good bass line so I like electronic music, especially dub step with strong hip hop influences. I love the lyricism of rap.
Do you have a motto you live by?
Work will set you free.
Who is your inspiration and why?
I aspire to be a great entrepreneur and truly help people– Alycia Kaback and Michael are my inspiration.
What do you hope to take away from working here?
Working with Alycia Kaback and The IT Factor is the perfect environment for me to gain knowledge and experience. Since this is a small company I have developed a relationship with Alycia and she trusts me enough to put me in charge of major projects like The 1st Annual NYC Women’s Empowerment Summit. I have never done anything like that before, but Alycia knew I could do it and allowed me the opportunity to learn how by just doing it.
Most of all, I feel that The IT Factor is my family. Working here has made me who I am today and I know I have gained some life long friends.
Alycia Kaback Talent Scout Success Story Andrew Kind- VP Talent Services
What is your position at VIP Talent Connect and The IT Factor?
I am the Vice President of Talent Services. I train the scouts, as well as help everyone in the office with their daily duties and make sure everything is set for open calls. I also make sure the office is ready at the beginning of each day for appointments.
How long have you been working here?
A week and 4 days. I started as a model and after attending the event in September, I decided to come down here for a day job, and Alycia Kaback hired me. I started as talent, then moved to scout, then scout instructor. I really enjoyed scouting and I had a blast doing it. I scouted a ton of people and the people I scouted have had a ton of success themselves.
My advice to new scouts would be to work hard and to leave the sense of entitlement at the door.
What do you like about working here?
I like the people and the possibility of meeting someone famous any day and the networking opportunities that are provided.
What are your thoughts on company and what it does?
I love the company and the way that it helps people achieve their dreams in the entertainment business.
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met so far?
It would definitely be Alycia Kaback because of how personable she is and that she is literally a people person. She doesn’t think she is too big or too important to talk to anybody and she gives everyone respect. She is very real and keeps it 100% by treating you how you treat her.
Who do you hope to one day meet?
Adam Sandler and Spike Lee, since they are my heroes. I saw comedies growing up and that is how I became interested in comedy. Adam Sandler, Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy inspired me to pursue comedy and my ultimate goal would be to become a paid comedian. Right now, I’m in the practice stages and perform 3 times a week.
What do you like to do outside of working?
I like to spend time with my family, perform comedy and poetry, and write. I also like modeling, acting, and the movies. I would love to be in Spike Lee’s next motion picture if I could.
What do you think of the VIP Talent Connect Summits and what they offer to people?
I think it is a life changing experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity. For anyone who has any interest in the entertainment business, this is something you will never be able to get on your own and it’s something that only Alycia Kaback can provide. It could change your career.
What type of music do you like to listen to?
I like Alicia Keys, Nas, and Erykah Badu.
Do you have any actors that you like?
I like Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler because they all give great performances every time they perform.
Do you have a motto you live by?
Go for it. You never fail if you don’t try and you never succeed if you don’t try. I would rather do something I love and get paid nothing than get paid everything and be miserable.
Who is your inspiration and why?
I aspire to be a great entertainer like Adam Sandler, Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy.
What do you hope to take away from working here?
I want to come away with more knowledge of the industry, more connections and more experience.
Alycia Kaback’s VIP Talent Scout Rachel Receives Promotion to Assistant Talent Executive: Read the Exclusive Interview
Rachel L. started out as a Talent Scout for Philadelphia with VIP Talent Connect & Alycia Kaback. After her 30 day training period she met with Regional Director Mike James with whom she is pictured above for a one on one evaluation of her progress. Rachel was one of the most dedicated and responsible scouts and discovered many talent now enrolled with either with VIP Talent Connect or Kaback Model Management. Because of her achievements, Mike promoted Rachel to Assistant Talent Executive.
What is your position here and what all does that entail?
Right now, I’m an Assistant Talent Executive and I call potential talent who have been scouted to interview them and decide if they qualify to be scheduled for an open call to meet with one of our directors.
I hear you were recently promoted to Customer Support and Assistant Talent Executive, Congratulations. What are your thoughts about advancing here?
I’m really excited to be there for people who come into the office and be able answer questions they may have. I’m proud to meet with people individually to help them further their career. I think for new scouts, the most important thing to do is show you’re eager. You must have the initial drive to show the directors that you should be there. If you can give them a reason why you should be there, then you have a chance at advancing in this company.
How long have you been working here? Why did you start working here?
I’ve been working here for about 2 ½ months. I saw an ad on Craigslist and was drawn to the talent portion of the company. I like the idea of there being an outlet for everyday people who want to get into the industry to meet the people they want to meet and have a shot.
What do you like most about working here?
Talking to talents who are excited about the opportunity and explaining the company to them and getting them excited about coming in.
What are your thoughts on the company and what it does?
It’s really great and a new kind of concept of having people meet with professionals in the industry to kick start their career. It is amazing how the speakers get together in one room with the sole purpose of serving the fresh talent who want to get their start.
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met so far? Who do you hope to meet?
The most interesting would be Robert Russell. He’s nothing like I expected, but still very influential. Just from a short conversation with him, I was inspired and learned from him. I would love to meet Tim Burton, but I don’t know if that would happen.
What do you think of the VIP Talent Connect Summits?
It was a really cool atmosphere and cool to see that the speakers didn’t really put themselves on a level above the talent-they were there as mentors for the talent. It was a collaborative environment where everyone is learning from each other.
What do you like to do outside of working?
I go to school for directing, play-writing and production. Most of my time is spent doing theatre and I am starting to volunteer with AmeriCorps and will be working with Project Home where I hope to start a creative writing club as a therapeutic activity.
What was your most memorable experience?
I directed a piece that I created at my community theatre which was pretty cool.
What is your favorite music? Favorite movies?
I like Indie music. My favorite movies are One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Edward Scissorhands, and Moulin Rouge!
Who are your favorite Actors and Actresses that you look up to?
I love Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. They are both able to portray many different characters and Meryl Streep has a certain charisma about her and even more so that Nicholson is she able to fully take on a character.
What is your favorite food?
Chicken pot pie
Who is your inspiration and why?
My boyfriend, Tony, because he always pushes me to do the best that I can and to follow what I know is right.
What do you hope to take away from working here?
I love learning more about the entertainment industry, which is helpful because that is what I want to get into. I’ve learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before, especially about networking. Networking is very important not only in this industry but in any aspect of any career.
Alycia Kaback’s Talent Scout Ali M Interviews Colby and KMM’s Dan Metz
Kaback/ Colby Models’ Dan Metz is 23 years old and began his modeling career in early 2009 when he came to the VIP Talent Connect office. Here, Dan interviews with one of Alycia Kaback’s Top Talent Scouts Ali M.I would say I’m a laid-back individual, but also someone who likes the outdoors. My favorite things to do are cliff jumping, hiking, canoeing, and backpacking.
How did someone so outdoorsy come to work in the world of high-end fashion modeling?
It all started with Craigslist and chewing gum!
School is important
Romantic at Heart?I’m a romantic, but I consider being romantic how Jim from The Office describes romance: love at first sight isn’t romantic; it’s about being able to laugh, being best friends, and it’s not just based on looks. Right now, I’m not looking for a relationship, just friendships unless that feeling is there. I think the best way to get someone’s attention is to respect them and have eye contact. Treat them equally and not objectify them. The craziest thing you’ve ever done.In one day I drove to Tennessee to get my dog Cronus, who is a wolf-hybrid dog, and then the next day I drove back.
Unforgettable Football Moments:
In Middle School I was on Special Teams receiving the opening kickoff and caught the ball and returned it for a touchdown. Then, one time in a preseason practice, I was defending someone and landed wrong, breaking both bones at the growth plate on my right hand. The bones had shifted and formed an S, so they had to manually shift the bones back in to place. Once I was recovered, I had a fumble recovery on my first game back.
I like the hips, because it’s something to hold on to. But on me, I like my feet and my eyes. I have a big gap between my big toe and the others and then I have 2 colors in my right eye, so my mom used to call me “tiger eye.”
Boxers or Briefs?
Depends on the occasion. I wore boxers growing up and now when I do outdoor activities I like to wear boxers. Briefs are for when I’m working out and modeling.
On the Radio
I listen to Sirius Radio, The Chill channel, and I like electronica and techno. My favorite artists include Dead Mouse, 90s Green Day, Nirvana, Blink182 and Angels and Airwaves.
Favorite Food
Terrgan Chicken with either rice or pasta
I play World of Warcraft. I’m not productive when I’m playing that game, but I’m productive in playing the game.
Future Scientist
If I wasn’t a model, I’d be a scientist and inventor, but I hope to be both a model and a scientist.
Motto you live by
Live in the present and for the future, not the past.
